A small bugfix release and first video about PioSOLVER March 24, 2015 23:16

One of our users made a video introducing PioSOLVER and its basic functionality. I think it's a very nice resource and probably easier to follow than our quick start guide. Check it out here:

Thank you ibavly for putting this together. To all the rest: check it out! I hope we can have more material up in coming weeks.

There is also a small bugfix release of the PioViewer. It's already in your download folder and you can just copy it to your PioSOLVER folder (as usual). The small changes are:

  • The saves from tree configuration were not working in the newest update - it is fixed now.
  • The new copy-paste feature for EV didn't scale the EV the way the viewer does (so fold could have negative EV if it came after investing something in the pot before). It is fixed now and the numbers reported by the Viewer and the one possible to copy paste are the same.
  • Display of colors and the way the gradient is constructed is now improved thanks to our user Karganeth's suggestion (on twoplustwo forum).

This is just quick bugfix. We are preparing for big solver/viewer update with a lot of new functionality. That still needs a lot of testing though. Stay tuned!

PioViewer update March 16, 2015 00:11

We are happy to announce the first PioViewer update. This is a small release which fixes common annoyances and adds some frequently requested features. You can find a new version in your download folder. Just copy it to the same folder the previous one was in and you are good to go (you can keep both for a while). PioViewer free is updated as well.

Summary of the changes:

  1. It's now possible to see strategy+ev+range or strategy+range in the same view. The "squares proportional to weight" checkbox does that and works for all available views (EV, Strategy, Range etc.). CLICK
  2. You can now choose if the range is shown as weights or combos (CLICK)
  3. The default name for in-position player is now IP and the default name for out-of-position player is now OOP; those can be changed to any other name.
  4. There is now additional information about quality of the solution: exploitability in % of the pot; that gives better idea of how good the solution is. (CLICK)
  5. By default the viewer hides the dead combinations (so say KK on Kxx board still takes the whole square even though it's only 3 combinations). You can now change this behavior.
  6. Right clicking 13x13 grid now allows you to export results in human readable format. That is possible for strategies, evs, evs for particular actions, weights etc. (CLICK)
  7. Raise+ is now changed to "raise to" by common request. Bet 100, Raise 300 means that the second player puts 300 (raising by 200 more) on the table. This was much preferred format among our customers.
  8. We now accept ranges in CREV/Flopzilla format. Just paste them to the range selector and it will work.
  9. PioViewer now accepts saves as command line arguments. That means you can drag and drop the save into the PioViewer.exe and it will open loading that save.
  10. There is now "reset to default" for all configuration changes so it's safer to experiment with settings and color display.
  11. "Build tree" now warns you if there is other tree already built. It was common occurrence for our users to click it and lose their calculated results.
  12. The EV display configuration is now more flexible. More variables were introduced.

A hidden feature in PioViewer March 13, 2015 11:26

We didn't intend to hide it but a lot of our customers act surprised when we show it to them. Universal reaction is "whoa, I didn't know I can do that!". Here is a quick description:

At a decision point you often want to see not only the current range of a player having a decision to make but also specific sub-ranges for every possible decision. For example in response to a continuation bet you may want to see a raising range, a calling range and a folding range. To do that it's not necessary to navigate to those decisions. It as easy as one click.

Here is an example: it's a 3-bet pot. The board is As 4d 4c, OOP player just made a continuation bet and we want to see what raising/calling/folding ranges are in response to that:

That's it. You can then right-click the 13x13 grid to copy chosen range and paste it into our range selector to take a closer look (available in Tools->Select Range)

Feedback after the release March 9, 2015 23:30

The response we got after releasing PioSOLVER is nothing short of amazing. We've never anticipated this kind of traffic. Things are a bit overwhelming right now so I thank you all for your patience. Here is the state of affairs:

  • There is now FAQ which will be regularly updated. Try it, maybe your question is already answered.
  • The most frequent feature request we got is making tree-building function more robust. We are getting there and it will be possible to insert any possible sizes for bets/raises. It's not that an easy task to implement because we want the simplicity to still be there but also to give the possibility to manually tinker with chosen branches
  • The most common complaint we got is lack of clarity in range views (Hero range and Villain range button). What they show now is fraction of initial combos in the range. So on AJ4 board 0.5 means 3 combos of KK but only 1.5 combos of JJ (because there were 3 to start with). It would be very useful to show just number of combinations.
  • Strategy view causes confusion as well as it's hard to see how often given hand is included in given branch. This may wait for a while but we already have some ideas how to make it clearer.
  • The 2p2 support thread just started getting some traction so if you don't mind having your question answered publicly consider posting there. It makes my life easier as I end up repeating myself a lot in emails and Skype conversations.
